Financing a horse for your child

Your kid's outgrown the riding school lesson horse and it's time for their own. This is a genuinely different conversation from a competition or breeding purchase, and almost nobody else in this market speaks to it directly.

This is a family decision, not a business one

Most horse-finance content online is written for competitive adults or commercial buyers. If you're financing a first pony or a pony-club horse for your child, the questions are different: what's manageable month to month, what happens if riding doesn't stick, how do you budget for the ongoing costs on top of the loan.

This is squarely a personal, NCCP-regulated consumer credit product. The same consumer protections that apply to a car loan apply here, and we'll walk you through it in plain language, not finance jargon.

Sized to what you can actually manage

Leisure and youth horses tend to sit in the lower price brackets, which usually means smaller, more manageable repayments than a competition-horse loan. The eligibility check asks about your income and situation honestly so the number we come back with is one you can actually live with alongside agistment, feed and lessons.

Questions

Can I apply on behalf of my child?

The loan is taken out by an adult (18+, Australian resident). Your child rides the horse, but the finance agreement and repayment responsibility sit with you as the applicant.

What if my child stops riding?

That's a real risk worth thinking through before you apply, not after. Talk to us about a loan term and amount that still makes sense even if their interest changes, and consider what resale or on-sale of the horse looks like as a fallback.

Is this cheaper than a general personal loan?

We can't promise a specific rate without seeing your application. What we can promise is a lender panel that understands the purpose is a horse purchase, assessed on that basis rather than an undisclosed-purpose personal loan.
