Horse loan eligibility & credit requirements
What actually determines whether you'll be approved, and what to do if your credit history isn't spotless.
18+ years old
A standard requirement across every lender on our panel.
Australian citizen or permanent resident
Required for the consumer credit products we broker.
A regular income
Full-time, part-time, casual or self-employed. Different lenders on the panel weight this differently.
A workable credit history
Not necessarily a perfect one. See below.
Less-than-perfect credit isn't an automatic no
We route applications to a panel, not one bank. That means a default, a period of casual work or a rebuilding credit history doesn't necessarily rule you out the way it might with a single lender's rigid checklist. What it usually changes is the rate and terms on offer, not whether finance is possible at all.
We won't promise an outcome before we've actually assessed your situation. What we will do is tell you plainly where you stand, including a straight "not right now" if that's the honest answer, rather than string you along.
Can I get a horse loan with bad credit?
It's genuinely possible, depending on severity and how long ago issues occurred. Our panel includes lenders who assess a broader credit range than a single bank would, so it typically affects the rate offered rather than ruling you out entirely.
Do you check my credit score before I apply?
Checking your eligibility with us is the first step of the actual application process, not a separate soft check. We'll be upfront with you about what's involved before you submit anything.
Does the horse need to be valued before I'm approved?
Not always. For most personal-use purchases, the agreed price is sufficient to start. Larger or business-purpose purchases may require additional documentation, which we'll specify for your situation.
